Public Consultation On Street Art Phase 2

Closed 2 Feb 2024

Opened 18 Jan 2024

Overview

Cities, towns and villages across Northern Ireland have been enhanced in recent years by installation of various forms of ‘Street Art’. Street Art is a form of public art created for consumption outside of the typical art gallery setting and usually presented on exterior walls of buildings. Street Art can completely change the visual aesthetic of an area and provide a real connection between people and their place.

Any form of public art can activate the imagination and encourages people to pay attention and perceive more deeply the environment they occupy whether they like or not the particular piece of art. Street Art has been proven to be an incredibly cost effective way of improving communities’ sense of place and identity and is intended to make Borough towns and areas more attractive and individual in character.

In Autumn 2023 the Council delivered its first phase of a Boroughwide Street Art Project through delivery of street art in each District Electoral Area based upon the Council’s Botanical Borough theme and using the chosen botanical symbol of each of the DEAs as follows:

Airport - The Rose

Antrim - The Bluebell

Ballyclare - The Flax Flower

Dunsilly - The Flax Flower

Glengormley Urban - The Forget Me Not

Macedon - The Cherry Blossom

Threemilewater - The Flax Flower

Between Spring and Autumn this year, the Council will begin phase 2 of its street art project, delivering new wall paintings throughout the Borough. We would love to hear your thoughts about the themes you’d like to see reflected in these pieces of street art, as well as your suggestions for locations. This survey will only take a few minutes to complete, and all submissions will be entered into a prize draw to win a family ticket for this year’s Enchanted Winter Garden.

Why your views matter

Please tell us the theme and location of street art you believe would enhance your community, by answering the questions within this short survey.

What happens next

Outcomes from this exercise will help to inform the ongoing consultation and delivery of the additional street art.
